A Common Thread: An Embroidery Empowerment Activity
August 22, 2022
VOW for Girls offers companies meaningful employee engagement opportunities that promote team building while raising awareness about the issue of child marriage.
Our new embroidery event, A Common Thread allows even those who are new to embroidery and sewing to create a beautiful keepsake while learning more about VOW’s commitment to ensuring that every girl can choose love on her own terms.
A Common Thread creates a connection to our work through a shared activity and directly ties to the work of many of the grassroots organizations we support around the world that aim to improve the livelihoods of girls and young women through training in seamstressing, tailoring, craft making and more.

Developed in partnership with our friends at WeHero, the activity takes one hour and can be done with groups of all sizes as an in-person, virtual or hybrid experience.
An embroidery kit is provided with all necessary materials, including a simple pattern and a link to video instructions. The hour-long session includes a sewing demonstration as well as introductory information about the issue of child marriage, positive stories of VOW’s impact and ways to take action are shared with the group.

Each participant receives an individual kit to create this simple yet powerful craft project.
The final embroidery product can be used as wall art, sewn onto a bag or pillow, used as a desk keepsake or gifted to continue spreading the word and raising awareness!
The best part: The purchase of each participant’s kit includes a donation equivalent to one month of a girl’s school fees.
